A couples conversation card app for the two of you

Most couples talk every day: schedules, groceries, whose turn it is. A couples conversation card app is for the other conversation. Here’s what to look for in one, and how Kumustahan’s Couples deck works.

Kumustahan is a bilingual conversation card app: 1,200 questions in English and Filipino across 7 decks, with a short reflection on the back of every card.

A note

Feeling chosen does not always come from big promises. Often, it comes from steady attention in ordinary moments.

In short

The idea

A couples conversation card app gives two people questions to ask each other, one at a time, on a phone. A good one is gentle rather than spicy-by-default, lets you choose how deep to go, keeps your answers private, and works anywhere: at a restaurant, on the couch or over a video call when you’re far apart.

Kumustahan’s Couples deck is free in the app. It’s written for two people in any season, from newly together to married for decades, with a softer card design and no explicit prompts.

Tips

  1. Both of you answer every card, taking turns going first.
  2. Choose a lighter depth on tired nights.
  3. Read the reflection on the back before the next card.
  4. Put the phone face down while you talk.
  5. Use one card to start each long-distance call.

What to look for

  • Questions about your real life, not just quizzes about favorite colors or questions designed to provoke.
  • Depth you choose. A tired Tuesday needs lighter cards than an anniversary dinner.
  • Skipping without guilt. Either of you should be able to pass any card.
  • Privacy. Ideally no account, and notes that stay on your phone.
  • Works offline, for flights, cabins and anywhere the signal drops.
  • Something after the answer. A prompt or reflection that keeps the conversation going.

How to use one on date night

Order first, then take out the phone. Read a card aloud, let your partner answer, then answer it yourself. Flip the card and read the reflection on the back before the next one. Put the phone face down while you talk.

Five cards is a good evening. Some nights you’ll stay on the first one for an hour; that’s the point, not a failure. For more ideas, see deep conversations with your partner.

Using it when you’re far apart

On a video call, one of you opens the app and reads each card aloud; you both answer. It gives a long-distance call a shape when you’ve already covered the day. Couples in different time zones often keep one card for the start of each call. More in long distance relationship tips.

Kumustahan’s Couples deck

The Couples deck turns ordinary moments into real check-ins: appreciation, stress, closeness, repair and hopes for the future. Harder cards are always skippable, so the two of you stay in charge of the pace. Like every Kumustahan card, each has English and Filipino, which many couples with one Filipino partner enjoy.

There’s no account. Favorites and notes stay on your phone unless you turn on backup to your own iCloud or Google account. You can mix the Couples deck with Getting to know or Just for fun for a lighter date night.

  1. When do you feel most at ease, or comfortable with me?

Kailan ka pinaka-komportable at magaan kapag kasama mo ako?

    Back of the card

Ease is worth noticing too. It shows what already helps the relationship breathe without trying too hard.

  2. What small thing could make our next date feel more like our kind of date?

    Back of the card

A good date does not have to impress anyone else. It just needs to fit the rhythm that feels real for both of you.

  3. When we were still getting to know each other, what moment first made you feel like we could become something real?

Noong kinikilala pa natin ang isa't isa, anong moment yung unang nagparamdam sa'yo na puwede tayong maging something real?

    Back of the card

This is not about pressure or measuring the relationship. It is simply remembering when being together first started to feel possible.

  4. What small thing I do on a normal day makes you feel chosen?

    Back of the card

Feeling chosen does not always come from big promises. Often, it comes from steady attention in ordinary moments.

  5. Would you rather have one long vacation or several short ones?

Mas gusto mo ba ng isang mahabang bakasyon o ilang maiikli?

    Back of the card

Give your break a title, as if it were a movie.

Checking in

5 questions

How you’re really doing, together.

  1. What is one quiet strength in our relationship right now?

Ano yung isang quiet strength ng relationship natin ngayon?

    Back of the card

Strength does not always have to be obvious. Naming what feels steady can give you both courage for what is still growing.

  2. What part of this season of your life do you want me to understand better?

    Back of the card

People change by season. Updating each other keeps love attached to the person in front of you now.

Nagbabago ang tao depende sa season. Kapag nag-u-update kayo, minamahal ninyo yung taong nasa harap ninyo ngayon.

  3. What are small things we can do to move from work mode into us time?

Ano yung maliliit na bagay na puwede nating gawin para lumipat from work mode to us time?

    Back of the card

The shift does not have to be big. A small routine can help both of you arrive, settle, and feel like partners again.

  4. What is one thing I can say during a hard talk that helps you feel heard?

    Back of the card

Feeling heard often matters before finding a solution. A few clear words can help lower the need to defend.

  5. What pressure are you carrying that I may not fully see?

    Back of the card

Some pressure looks normal from the outside. Understanding it can turn judgment into gentler support.

When you both have room

6 questions

Gentle, but closer. Skip any card.

  1. When you feel alone, what do I do that helps you feel I am with you?

    Back of the card

Feeling less alone does not mean everything is fixed. Sometimes it means someone noticed, stayed close, and cared enough to check in.

  2. When you go quiet, what usually helps you feel safe enough to come back?

    Back of the card

  4. During conflict, what makes it hardest for you to stay in the conversation?

Kapag may conflict tayo, ano yung nagpapahirap sa'yo manatili sa usapan?

    Back of the card

It is hard to stay present when someone feels unsafe or overloaded. Understanding that moment can make it easier to pause, return, and repair.

    Back of the card
