How to use them
Before you ask
The question that ruins class reunions is “so what do you do now?”, because it turns the night into a comparison of jobs, houses and kids. Better reunion questions ask who you became: what matters more to you now, what you like about yourself more than you used to, which grown-up skill would have stunned your ten-year-old self.
Start light. The first minutes of a reunion are squinting at name tags and pretending to remember. Ask what line everyone used to hear you say, or what your automatic move is when a group photo starts, and the old personalities come back fast.
The back-then questions are the main event. Old photos, harmless mistakes that became class legends, the thing that excited you most at sixteen. Laughing about who you were is the fastest way to like who everyone is now.
Good for
Tips
- Put old photos on a table and a question card next to each.
- Skip “are you married?” and “what do you do?” in the first hour.
- Ask the quiet classmates the back-then questions; they remember everything.
- Start a group chat before everyone leaves and post the first question in it.
- For one old friend rather than a whole class, see how to reconnect with an old friend.

Frequently asked questions
What are good questions to ask at a class reunion?
Ask about who people became instead of what they do: what matters more to them now, what they like about themselves more than before. Mix in back-then questions about old photos and harmless mistakes, which get everyone laughing.
How do you avoid comparing careers at a reunion?
Lead with stories, not status. Questions about memories, personality and small changes keep the night about people instead of job titles and houses.
What are fun class reunion icebreakers?
Name-tag openers like the line everyone used to hear you say, an old-photo round, and a “then and now” round where each person names one way they’ve changed for the better.
