A note

Shared laughter becomes part of a group's language. Sometimes one unfinished sentence is enough to bring everyone back there.

  6. Tell us about a friend who made you feel like you belonged.

    Back of the card

Inclusion can happen through one seat saved, one question asked, or one person making room on purpose.

  7. Who is a friend you can sit quietly with without it feeling awkward?

Sino yung friend na kaya mong samahan nang tahimik without it feeling awkward?

    Back of the card

Comfortable quiet is its own kind of closeness. It means the friendship does not always need talking, joking, or trying hard.

One in the morning

10 questions

For when the table gets smaller and somebody finally says what’s on their mind.

  1. If a friend asked what matters to you lately, what is the first thing you would mention?

    Back of the card

You do not have to list everything. Starting with one honest thing is already enough for a real answer.

  2. Name one good thing you are quietly hoping for.

Magsabi ng isang good thing na tahimik mong hinihiling lately.

    Back of the card

Quiet hopes still deserve room. Saying them gently can remind you that wanting good things is not foolish.

  3. Which fear gets smaller when you talk about it?

Anong takot ang gumagaan kapag naikukwento mo?

    Back of the card

Some fears grow in silence and shrink in safe air. Talking can help you see their true size.

  4. Name something you are carrying this week that people may not notice.

    Back of the card

Not every weight is visible. Being honest about what you carry can make the load feel less unnamed.

  5. What would you try if failure felt less embarrassing?

    Back of the card

Embarrassment can make the room feel smaller than it is. The thing you would try may still be worth naming.

  6. Name something you are outgrowing, even if you still care about it.

    Back of the card

Outgrowing something does not always mean rejecting it. Sometimes it means honoring what was real while making room to change.

  7. Which version of your past self are you starting to understand more now?

    Back of the card

Understanding your past self does not erase what happened. It can soften the way you hold the person you were.

  8. If a friend said you have changed in a good way, what change would you hope they noticed?

Kung sabihin ng friend mo na nagbago ka in a good way, anong change ang sana napansin nila?

    Back of the card

The change you hope someone notices may point to what you have been quietly practicing.

Yung change na sana mapansin nila baka yun yung tahimik mong pinapractice nitong season.

  9. Say one brave thing you can admit you want.

    Back of the card

Wanting can feel risky when the answer is not guaranteed. Naming the desire is already a brave kind of honesty.

  10. Where do you feel pulled in two directions?

    Back of the card

Feeling pulled does not mean you are weak. It may mean two real things are asking for your attention.

How to use them

Before you ask

Every barkada has the night that starts with kalokohan and ends, around one in the morning, with someone saying the thing they have been carrying for months. That turn is the good part of an inuman. These questions are for getting there gently, without forcing it.

Start with kulitan while everyone is still loud: catchphrases, inside jokes, first impressions that turned out wrong. Then move to throwbacks about the friendship itself. The deeper questions on this page come from the Barkada and Reflect decks, and they work best when the group has thinned out to the ones who always stay.

This is not a drinking game. Nobody drinks because of a card, nobody has to drink at all, and a table of water, coffee and merienda gets to the same deep talk. You can always pass a card. What someone says at one in the morning stays at the table.

Good for

  • Barkada nights at someone’s house
  • Reunions with college or high school friends
  • Despedida for a friend leaving for abroad
  • Late nights after a wedding or a birthday
  • Kwentuhan with or without anything to drink

Tips

  1. Keep the cards separate from the drinks. No “drink if” rules, ever.
  2. Make sure there is water and food on the table, and that nobody feels odd for skipping the alcohol.
  3. Let anyone pass a card without explaining why.
  4. Save the deep questions for later, when the group is small enough to actually listen.
  5. Don’t bring up tonight’s answers tomorrow in the group chat unless the person does first.

Inuman nights

Frequently asked questions

What are good questions to ask at an inuman?

Start with funny ones about the barkada itself, like catchphrases and how first impressions changed, then move to questions about what everyone is hoping for or carrying lately. The best inuman questions are about the friendship and the people at the table.

What are good deep talk questions with friends?

Questions that ask about hopes, fears and change, such as what you are outgrowing or what you would try if failing felt less embarrassing. Ask them late, in a small group, and let people pass.

Is this a drinking game?

No. Nobody drinks because of a card, and nobody has to drink at all. The questions are for kwentuhan, and they work just as well over coffee, water and merienda.

Are there barkada questions in Tagalog?

Yes. Every card has an English and a Filipino/Tagalog version, and the free Kumustahan app lets you switch languages with one tap, offline. For a Tagalog-first list, see the barkada page in Filipino.
