Questions for a group, where everyone gets a turn
A question that works one-on-one can die in a group of ten. Group questions need short answers, a bit of fun, and something everyone can say without a story. These are built for the go-around.

Questions for a group have a different job from questions for two. In a circle of eight, a question that invites a five-minute story means everyone else waits forty minutes. Good group questions get a short, fun answer from every person, so the energy keeps moving and nobody is left out.
The first round is built for that: quick answers about roles, reactions and made-up titles that take ten seconds each. The second round is for groups with shared history, like a friend group, a team or a family, where questions about the group itself pull out the stories everyone half remembers. The last two rounds are quieter and end with a plan, which is a good way to close.
Go around in order instead of waiting for volunteers, and let the quietest person choose the next question. For a full night of hosting, see breaking the ice in a group or hosting a conversation night.

Frequently asked questions
What are good questions to ask a group?
Quick questions everyone can answer in a sentence, like which role you take at a gathering or your automatic move when a group photo starts. For groups with history, ask what always makes the group laugh.
How do you get everyone in a group to talk?
Go around in order with short questions so everyone answers, and keep the first round light. People who have spoken once are more likely to join in later.
How many people is too many for group questions?
Past about ten, answers start to drag. Split into smaller circles and bring the best answers back to the whole group.
