Who taught you a work or school habit you still use, and what was it?
Sino yung nagturo sa'yo ng work o school habit na gamit mo pa rin, at ano yun?
Some habits come from people who modeled them first. Their way of doing things can quietly become part of yours.

What useful skill did someone patiently teach you?
Back of the card

Isipin na ikaw naman ang nagtuturo nito. Ano ang una mong ipapakita sa baguhan?
-
Share the first time you did something on your own and felt more capable afterward.

-
Who is someone you respect for the way they live, even in small things?
Back of the card
Respect often begins with small, steady things. A simple habit can show a lot about how someone moves through life.
-
Tell us about a time someone was fair to you in a way you still remember.
Back of the card
Fairness can be memorable because it gives people room to breathe. It says, I see the whole situation, not only the mistake.
How they decide
5 questions
The most useful thing a mentor can show you is their reasoning.
-
When plans change, how do you decide what to keep, drop, or adjust?
Back of the card
Changed plans show priorities quickly. Sometimes the real answer is comfort, people, responsibility, peace, or simply energy.
Kapag nagbago ang plans, mabilis lumabas ang priorities. Minsan comfort, tao, responsibility, peace, o energy lang talaga.
-
When did you last change your mind after hearing a good reason?
Back of the card
Try an optional before-and-after: "I thought..., but now..."
-
What helps you keep going when the next step is not clear?
Back of the card
You do not need the whole map to keep moving carefully. Sometimes enough light for one step is still enough.
-
Where do you feel pulled in two directions?
Back of the card
Feeling pulled does not mean you are weak. It may mean two real things are asking for your attention.
-
What recent choice shows something that matters to you?
Back of the card
Finish if you like: "I chose it because I care about..."

6 questions
Ask these once you’ve met a few times.
-
What is something you can handle better now than before?
Ano yung mas kaya mo nang i-handle ngayon kaysa dati?
Back of the card
Growth is often noticed in comparison. What used to shake you may now take less from you.
Madalas napapansin ang growth kapag may comparison. Yung dati kang kinakabahan, baka ngayon mas kaya mo nang harapin.
-
Tell us about something you used to avoid that feels less scary now.
Back of the card
Less scary is still movement. You do not have to be fearless to know something has changed.
-
Name something that matters to you more now than it used to.
Back of the card
What matters can change as you grow. That shift is not betrayal; it may be a clearer kind of honesty.
-
How do you talk to yourself when you fall short?
Back of the card
The voice you use with yourself matters. It can either add weight or make room for a wiser next step.
-
What would you try if failure felt less embarrassing?
Back of the card
Embarrassment can make the room feel smaller than it is. The thing you would try may still be worth naming.
-
What can you do now that would have surprised you a few years ago?

-
Point to one direction you feel drawn toward, even if it is not fully clear yet.
Back of the card
Clarity sometimes arrives after movement. You can honor the direction without pretending you know the whole path.
-
Name something you are nervous about that still feels worth trying.
Back of the card
Nerves and courage often show up together. The fear does not automatically mean the step is wrong.
-
What would you like to make more time for this month?
Back of the card
Imagine an extra afternoon opens up. Would you spend it all on this or leave some time free?
How to use them
Before you ask
The questions to ask a mentor are the ones their LinkedIn can’t answer. Their job history is public. What isn’t is who taught them the habits that got them there, how they chose between two decent options, and what scared them at your stage.
Mentoring meetings tend to fail in one of two ways. The mentee asks for generic advice and gets a generic answer, or brings a crisis every time and never learns how the mentor thinks. Questions about real moments fix both. Ask about a time plans changed and how they chose what to keep. Ask what they handle better now than five years ago. Then ask a follow-up.
Bring two or three questions, not twenty, and leave the last ten minutes for the final group: answer a question about yourself out loud and ask what they notice. That’s where a mentor earns the coffee.
Good for
Tips
- Ask about a specific moment (“a time you changed your mind”), not a general philosophy.
- Tell them next time what you tried because of their answer. Mentors keep showing up for that.
- Respect the clock and end on time, even when it’s going well.
- Don’t only bring problems. Bring something that went right and ask what they’d do next.
- Notice the questions they ask you back; they show what they think you need.

Frequently asked questions
What are good questions to ask a mentor?
Ask about real moments: who taught them a habit they still use, how they decided when plans changed, something they used to avoid that feels less scary now. Specific questions get stories and reasoning, which beat general advice.
What should I ask in a first meeting with a mentor?
Start with how they got where they are and who helped them, then share where you’re trying to go. End by agreeing how often to meet and what to work on first.
How do I get the most out of a mentoring meeting?
Bring two or three questions, take notes, and report back on what you tried. A mentor can only help with what you actually bring to the table.
Bring a better question to the table.
