How to use them
Before you ask
A long drive is a strange, good place to talk. Nobody can leave, nobody has to make eye contact, and there are hours to fill between the last gas station and the first sign for the town. The right question turns six hours of SLEX, NLEX and zigzag roads into the part of the trip people remember.
Start with quick picks while everyone is still waking up. They take a second to answer and usually start an argument about breakfast or window seats. Once the van settles, ask for stories: rides home, plans that fell apart, places with a funny memory. Save the quiet questions for the drive back, when the barkada is tired and more honest.
One rule matters more than the questions. The driver never reads the cards. A passenger reads each one aloud and the driver answers when the road allows, or passes. If the traffic gets tricky, the game waits.
Good for
Tips
- A passenger reads every card aloud. The driver only listens and answers.
- Go around the car in order so the quiet one in the back still gets a turn.
- Download the app before you leave. It works offline, so dead zones in the mountains don’t matter.
- Pause for tolls, checkpoints and tricky merges. The question will still be there after.
- Let a song answer a question now and then, and put it on the playlist.
- Stop when people start falling asleep. A good road trip has silences too.

Frequently asked questions
What are good questions to ask on a road trip?
Quick either-or picks for the first hour, then questions that ask for a story, like a memorable ride home or a plan that went wrong. Keep them easy to answer without looking at anything, since everyone is watching the road or the view.
How do you keep a long car ride from getting boring?
Take turns asking one question each, going around the car, and let the answers run as long as they want. A few good stories fill more road than a dozen quick answers.
Can the driver join in?
Yes, by listening and answering, never by reading. A passenger holds the phone or the cards, reads each question aloud, and the driver can pass any time the road needs attention.
Do these road trip questions work without internet?
Yes. They are cards from the free Kumustahan app, which works fully offline. Pick the Just for fun and Icebreakers decks, choose Keep it light, and let a passenger deal.
