How to use them
Before you ask
Random questions work because nobody prepared an answer. Ask someone about their job and you get the version they’ve said a hundred times. Ask them about the aircon setting they will fight for, or the useless invention they would still buy, and you get the real person, usually laughing.
This set mixes cards from Just for fun and Icebreakers, with a few from Barkada. Some are pure nonsense, some are oddly specific, and some quietly turn into a story. That mix is the point: a random question should surprise the person answering, not just the person asking.
Use them anywhere there is dead air. In line for the jeep, on a long drive, at the end of a meeting, or in the group chat when nobody has posted in a week. If you want the whole silly deck in order, start with Just for fun. If your group likes choosing between two options, try would you rather.
Good for
Tips
- Ask fast and don’t explain the question. Half the fun is the confusion.
- Let people argue. A harmless opinion defended loudly is a good night.
- Go around the whole group on one card before drawing the next.
- Throw in a random question right after a serious one to lighten the room.
- Keep it kind: laugh with the answer, not at the person.

Silly hypotheticals, oddly specific preferences and small embarrassing stories. Questions about snacks, made-up rules or a funny public moment get answers people didn’t rehearse.
What is a random question to ask to start a conversation?
Something unexpected but easy, like a tiny superpower you’d want or a harmless opinion you take seriously. It gets a laugh first and a real answer second.
How are random questions different from icebreakers?
Icebreakers are built for people who just met and stay safe and quick. Random questions can be sillier and more personal, so they work best with friends or a group that already likes each other.
