A note

Being known can feel ordinary like that. Someone remembers your usual, your no-thanks, or the thing you always reach for.

Sister stuff, low stakes

5 questions

Food fights, overreactions and wrong-sent messages.

  1. What food do you and a friend disagree about?

    Back of the card

No need to settle this food debate. You can both keep your favorites.

  2. Tell a funny story about overreacting to a tiny problem.

    Back of the card

How would you tell it if the tiny problem were the villain in the story?

  3. Tell us a food combo you like that people might question.

    Back of the card

Questionable does not always mean wrong. Some pairings just need one brave person to admit they work.

  4. Finish this: I almost panicked when I accidentally sent...

Tapusin ito: Halos nag-panic ako nung accidentally kong na-send...

    Back of the card

Wrong sends create instant suspense. The few seconds after realizing it can feel longer than the whole day.

Iba yung kaba ng wrong send. Yung ilang seconds after ma-realize, parang humahaba bigla yung buong araw.

  5. Describe a funny photo of yourself that you would happily show your friends.

    Back of the card

No need to show it. What caption would fit the photo?

Hindi kailangang ipakita. Anong caption ang babagay sa photo?

What she sees in you

4 questions

Sisters notice things nobody else does.

  1. Which compliment from a friend made you smile recently?

    Back of the card

Did you believe it right away, or did it sink in later?

  2. How can friends tell when you are excited about something?

    Back of the card

Think of the sign you notice in yourself before anyone else does.

  3. Who knows what you like, and what do they usually get right for you?

    Back of the card

Being known can feel ordinary like that. Someone remembers your usual, your no-thanks, or the thing you always reach for.

  4. Who is a friend you can sit quietly with without it feeling awkward?

Sino yung friend na kaya mong samahan nang tahimik without it feeling awkward?

    Back of the card

Comfortable quiet is its own kind of closeness. It means the friendship does not always need talking, joking, or trying hard.

Old fights, better now

3 questions

How you each like to be apologized to, finally said out loud.

  1. What makes an apology from a friend feel sincere to you?

    Back of the card

Would it still feel sincere if they used different words?

  2. After you and a friend disagree, what helps things feel okay again?

    Back of the card

You can notice a small improvement without calling everything fixed.

  3. What could you say to a quiet friend after a misunderstanding?

    Back of the card

You can leave them room to answer later.

Puwede mo silang bigyan ng oras bago sumagot.

Where her life is now

4 questions

For when you want to know the grown-up version of her.

  1. Name something you are carrying this week that people may not notice.

    Back of the card

Not every weight is visible. Being honest about what you carry can make the load feel less unnamed.

  2. What part of this season of your life do you want me to understand better?

    Back of the card

People change by season. Updating each other keeps love attached to the person in front of you now.

Nagbabago ang tao depende sa season. Kapag nag-u-update kayo, minamahal ninyo yung taong nasa harap ninyo ngayon.

  3. Name one thing that would make next month feel a little lighter.

    Back of the card

A lighter month does not have to mean a perfect one. Even one less weight can change how a season feels.

  4. Point to one direction you feel drawn toward, even if it is not fully clear yet.

    Back of the card

Clarity sometimes arrives after movement. You can honor the direction without pretending you know the whole path.

How to use them

Before you ask

Sisters get stuck in roles: the responsible one, the baby, the dramatic one. Those labels made sense at twelve and often don’t at thirty. Good questions to ask your sister skip the roles and find out who she is now.

Start with low-stakes sister stuff, the food you’ve always disagreed on, a funny overreaction, a message she almost sent to the wrong person. It’s familiar ground and it gets you laughing. Then ask what she sees in you, which is a question few people ever ask a sibling.

The old-fights group is worth it if things have been tense. Asking what makes an apology feel sincere to her, or what helps after a disagreement, is a gentle way to fix something without reopening the original argument.

Good for

  • Sister weekends and trips
  • Late nights at a parent’s house over the holidays
  • Long phone calls
  • Before or after a sister’s wedding
  • Sisters who drifted and want to reconnect

Tips

  1. Don’t bring up the old labels, even as a joke.
  2. Ask what she sees in you, then actually let it land.
  3. Repair questions work better in person than over text.
  4. Answer every question yourself, so it’s a trade.
  5. Plan the next sister thing before you hang up.

Frequently asked questions

What are good questions to ask your sister?

Mix the familiar with the new: a food you two disagree on, a compliment from her that made you smile, what helps after a disagreement, and what she’s carrying this week that people might not notice.

How can I get closer to my sister as adults?

Ask about her life now instead of replaying old roles, ask what makes an apology feel sincere to her, and keep regular contact even when it’s short.

Do these work for brothers too?

Most do. There’s also a page of questions to ask your brother, and one for siblings in general.
