How to use them
Before you ask
A study group works when people know how each other study, and most groups never ask. One person wants silence and flashcards, another wants to talk it through, a third came for the snacks. Two minutes of questions at the first session saves a semester of frustration.
Start with style: what someone working beside them for a week would notice, the distraction they want to handle better. Then share how each of you learns, like what help you want from a friend when something is new. You’ll quickly sort out who explains and who quizzes.
Use the study-break questions as a timer: one question per five-minute break, then back to work. The night before the exam, ask what can wait until tomorrow and how each person recovers after something hard.
Good for
Tips
- Agree on a format at the first session: silent study, quizzing, or explaining out loud.
- Set a timer: 25 minutes of work, five of break, one question per break.
- Rotate who explains each topic; teaching it is the best way to learn it.
- Keep phones in the middle of the table during work time.

Agree on a format, set timed work blocks with short breaks, rotate who explains each topic, and keep breaks to one quick question so they don’t take over.
What are good study break questions?
