Questions to ask yourself when you want an honest answer

You can tell other people you’re fine. It’s harder when you’re the one asking. These questions run a short self-check in four steps: how you are, what you’re carrying, what you need, what’s next.

A note

Change often shows up quietly before anyone else notices. Giving it words helps you see it more clearly.

How am I, really?

4 questions

Start with the honest weather report.

  1. What word would describe your week so far?

Anong word ang babagay sa week mo so far?

    Back of the card

Sometimes one word is enough to begin. Naming the week can help you notice what your heart has been carrying.

  2. Describe one thing that feels different about you lately.

    Back of the card

Change often shows up quietly before anyone else notices. Giving it words helps you see it more clearly.

  3. Which part of your day do you look forward to?

    Back of the card

The part you look forward to can be a clue. It shows where your day still gives you a little life.

Clue din yung part na inaabangan mo. Ipinapakita niya kung saan may konting buhay pa sa araw mo.

  4. Which part of your personality has been showing up more lately?

    Back of the card

The parts showing up may be asking to be noticed, used, or cared for. Curiosity can be a gentle start.

What am I carrying?

4 questions

The weight that doesn’t show on a calendar.

  1. Name something you are carrying this week that people may not notice.

    Back of the card

Not every weight is visible. Being honest about what you carry can make the load feel less unnamed.

  2. Name one pressure you may have gotten used to carrying lately.

    Back of the card

Some pressure becomes familiar, but familiar does not always mean light. You can notice it without needing to solve it tonight.

Puwede mo munang mapansin bago ayusin.

  3. Name one expectation of yourself that feels too heavy lately.

    Back of the card

Some expectations sound responsible but leave no room to breathe. You can ask whether they are still fair.

  4. Name one small choice that keeps affecting your mood, like sleep, food, screen time, movement, or who you talk to.

Magbanggit ng isang small choice na paulit-ulit na nakakaapekto sa mood mo, like tulog, food, screen time, galaw, o kung sino ang kausap mo.

    Back of the card

Small choices become loud when they repeat. Noticing one can give you a kinder place to start.

What do I need?

4 questions

Rest, kindness and permission to put things down.

  1. Which kind of rest would help you most this week?

Anong klaseng pahinga ang pinaka-makakatulong sa'yo this week?

    Back of the card

Rest is not always sleep. Sometimes it is quiet, help, laughter, less noise, or permission to stop proving.

  2. Pick one small kindness you can give yourself today.

    Back of the card

Kindness does not need to be grand to be real. A small mercy can still change how the day feels.

  3. Name one thing that can wait until tomorrow.

    Back of the card

Not everything needs today's strength. Letting one thing wait can be a practical kind of kindness.

  4. Where do you need to be less harsh with yourself?

    Back of the card

Being less harsh does not mean caring less. It can mean choosing a voice that helps you keep moving honestly.

What do I want next?

4 questions

Small hopes, and the direction you keep drifting toward.

  1. Name one good thing you are quietly hoping for.

Magsabi ng isang good thing na tahimik mong hinihiling lately.

    Back of the card

Quiet hopes still deserve room. Saying them gently can remind you that wanting good things is not foolish.

  2. Where do you need a little more courage this week?

Saan mo kailangan ng konting dagdag courage this week?

    Back of the card

Courage does not always look big. Sometimes it is one honest message, one boundary, or one careful next step.

  3. Name one small wish you have for yourself this year.

Ano yung isang maliit na wish mo para sa sarili mo this year?

    Back of the card

Small wishes can still be honest. They may be easier to say out loud because they do not demand a perfect life.

Maliit man yung wish, honest pa rin.

  4. Point to one direction you feel drawn toward, even if it is not fully clear yet.

    Back of the card

Clarity sometimes arrives after movement. You can honor the direction without pretending you know the whole path.

How to use them

Before you ask

Questions to ask yourself are a check-in with the one person who already knows the real answer. The hard part isn’t answering; it’s asking at all. Most of us go weeks on autopilot, then wonder why we feel off. Four honest questions once a week catch it earlier.

The page is built as a sequence. Start with how you really are, not how you’d answer at work. Then name what you’re carrying: the pressure and expectations that don’t show on a calendar. Then ask what you need, which is usually smaller than you think, like one kind of rest or one thing that can wait. End with what you want next, so the check-in points forward.

Pick one question from each group and answer it in your head on a walk, in the shower or in a notebook. Out loud with a friend works too; take turns. If you’d rather write, the journal prompts are made for the page.

Good for

  • A Sunday evening reset
  • Walks and commutes alone
  • Before a big decision
  • Weekly check-ins with a friend or partner
  • The start of a new month

Tips

  1. Ask one question from each group, in order.
  2. Answer the way you would to a friend you trust, not to a boss.
  3. Short on time? Write one word per answer.
  4. Notice the question you want to skip. That’s often the one.
  5. Repeat it next week and compare.

Questions to ask yourself

Frequently asked questions

What are good questions to ask yourself?

Questions that check in honestly: how your week really feels, what you’re carrying that people may not notice, what kind of rest would help, and what you’re quietly hoping for. Asked in that order, they make a quick self-check.

How often should I ask myself these questions?

Once a week works for most people, often on a Sunday evening or a quiet commute. The point is to notice changes early, so regular beats long.

Can I answer these with someone else?

Yes. Taking turns with a friend or partner turns a self-check into a good conversation, as long as nobody tries to fix the other person’s answers.
