Opening the passage

5 questions

Ways in that don’t need a theology degree.

  1. Choose a Bible story you still remember easily.

    Back of the card

The stories we remember often reveal what our hearts keep returning to: courage, mercy, rescue, waiting, or God's steady presence.

  2. Choose one Scripture truth you want to remember this week.

Pumili ng truth from Scripture na gusto mong maalala this week.

    Back of the card

Remembering is part of faith. A truth can steady you before your feelings catch up.

  3. Pick one teaching from Scripture that you want to practice, not just know.

    Back of the card

Knowing Scripture is a gift. Practicing it often starts slower, smaller, and more ordinary than we expect.

  4. Share a part of Scripture that has been comforting, even without fixing everything.

    Back of the card

Comfort does not always remove the situation. Sometimes Scripture gives enough light for the next step.

  5. Describe a season when God felt quiet but not absent.

    Back of the card

Quiet seasons can be hard to name. Still, silence and absence are not always the same thing.

Living it this week

5 questions

The step where most groups go quiet. Make it concrete.

  1. Think of a recent choice where your faith had to turn into action.

Mag-isip ng isang recent choice kung saan kailangan mong gawing action yung faith mo.

    Back of the card

Faith becomes real in everyday choices, not only in what we believe. Even small decisions can show where we are learning to trust God.

  2. Name one thing God is asking you to do that is clear, but not easy.

    Back of the card

Some clear steps are still hard. That does not make your faith fake; it can be an honest place to ask for grace.

  3. Choose one relationship where you want to reflect Jesus more in how you treat them.

    Back of the card

Following Jesus often becomes visible in one relationship at a time: patience, truth, kindness, repair, and steady love.

Madalas nakikita ang pagsunod kay Jesus one relationship at a time: patience, truth, kindness, repair, at steady love.

  4. Pick one everyday place where you want your faith to show up more.

Pumili ng isang everyday place kung saan gusto mong mas makita yung faith mo.

    Back of the card

Faith grows in ordinary places too: commutes, class, work, home, errands, and group chats. God is not limited to church settings.

  5. Complete this: I need God's courage to...

    Back of the card

Courage is not always loud. Sometimes it is the quiet strength to do the next faithful thing.

Prayer and care

4 questions

Gently. Never push for a prayer request.

  1. Share a prayer request you usually keep quiet, if you feel ready.

    Back of the card

You can share at the pace of trust. A quiet request still matters, even before it becomes easy to say.

  2. Pick one worry you need to pray about before deciding what to do next.

    Back of the card

Planning is not wrong. Prayer helps you bring the worry to God first, so fear does not lead every next step.

  3. Share one way your community can support you in this season.

    Back of the card

Community becomes more real when support is specific. You do not have to explain everything to ask for help.

  4. Think of one burden you've been trying to carry on your own.

    Back of the card

Naming a burden does not make it disappear right away. But it can be the first honest step toward bringing it to God.

Getting to know the group

3 questions

Mix one in for a new group, or a new member.

  1. Tell us about a friend who made you feel like you belonged.

    Back of the card

Inclusion can happen through one seat saved, one question asked, or one person making room on purpose.

  2. What helped you feel welcome in a new place?

    Back of the card

Would you do something similar for someone new? You can also leave it as a good memory.

  3. How do you usually show a friend that you care?

    Back of the card

Care has many shapes: checking in, feeding people, remembering details, giving space, or staying when it gets inconvenient.

How to use them

Before you ask

Good small group Bible study questions move from the text to the week ahead. Most study guides handle the first part well: what does the passage say, what does it mean. Groups stall at the next step, when the leader asks what it means for us and the room goes quiet.

These questions are for that step, and they work with any passage. Start with a Scripture truth someone wants to remember this week, or a teaching they want to practice and not just know. Then make it concrete: a recent choice where faith had to become action, something God is asking that is clear but not easy. Specific questions are easier to answer than a general “how does this apply?”, and the answers are more honest.

Leave time at the end for prayer and care, and handle those questions gently. A prayer request someone usually keeps quiet is a gift. If your group is new, mix in one from the last set so people know each other as well as they know the passage.

Good for

  • Weekly small group Bible studies
  • Home groups and life groups
  • Midweek church studies
  • Campus fellowship small groups
  • New groups in their first month

Tips

  1. Read the question, then wait ten full seconds before rephrasing it.
  2. In a new group, answer first yourself, briefly and honestly.
  3. Pick two application questions a night, not five.
  4. Say out loud at the start that prayer requests stay in the room.
  5. Rotate who leads the discussion so the leader isn’t the only voice.

A sample small group evening

A rhythm many groups settle into over about 75 minutes:

  • 15 minutes: food and one getting-to-know-you question.
  • 25 minutes: read the passage and work through your study guide.
  • 20 minutes: two questions from Living it this week.
  • 15 minutes: one prayer-and-care question, then pray together.

Frequently asked questions

What are good small group Bible study questions?

Questions that move from the passage to real life: a truth someone wants to remember this week, a teaching they want to practice, a recent choice where faith had to turn into action. End with a gentle question about prayer and support.

How do you lead a small group Bible study discussion?

Use your study guide for the passage, then ask one or two specific application questions, wait through the silence, and close with prayer requests. Keep the group small enough that everyone can speak.

How do you get a quiet Bible study group to talk?

Ask specific questions instead of asking for thoughts, start in pairs, and answer first yourself. A shared meal or a light opening question helps people relax before the deeper discussion.

Are these Bible study questions free?

Yes. They come from the free Lifegroup and Faith deck in Kumustahan, a conversation card app, and each card also has a Filipino translation.
