Maraming itsura ang care: nangangamusta, nagpapakain, nakakaalala ng details, nagbibigay ng space, o nananatili kahit hassle.
How to use them
Before you ask
Volunteers stay when they feel connected to each other and to the reason they showed up. The work itself, sorting cans or registering runners, rarely does that on its own. A few questions before the shift and after it do.
Before the shift, ask something easy that fits the work: a small errand they secretly like doing, a helpful idea they’d fund for the neighborhood. People who just met can answer while they unfold tables. During a break, ask why they’re here in a roundabout way: someone they respect for how they live, a recent choice that shows what matters to them.
After a long event, check in on energy, because tired volunteers rarely say so. And at the thank-you dinner, let volunteers appreciate each other, not only hear thanks from staff.
