Minsan ganun kasimple yung feeling na kilala ka. May nakakaalala ng usual mo, ayaw mo, o lagi mong pinipili.

How to use them

Before you ask

21 questions is a getting-to-know-you game for two: one person asks twenty-one questions, the other answers every one honestly, then you switch. In some versions you trade questions one at a time instead. Either way, the rule that makes it work is that you have to answer.

The usual problem is running out of good questions around number six, or jumping straight to awkward ones. This set solves both. It goes in three rounds of seven: easy and fun, then how you come across, then the honest ones. By question fifteen, the two of you have earned the closer questions.

It’s a natural fit for a crush or a new friend over text, a long drive, or two friends who think they know everything already. Play it in person if you can; on a call, play it in the evening, when there’s time to answer properly.

Good for

  • Getting to know a crush
  • New friends over text or a call
  • Long drives and flights
  • Sleepovers
  • Couples who want a fun throwback game

Tips

  1. Agree on the one-skip rule before you start.
  2. Have the asker answer every question too. It keeps things even.
  3. Over text, send one question at a time, not the whole list.
  4. If round three feels too soon, stop after round two and finish another day.
  5. Ask one follow-up per round on the answer you liked best.

How to play 21 questions

  • Decide the format. Either one person asks all twenty-one and then you switch, or you take turns, one question each.
  • Answer honestly. That’s the whole game. Short answers are fine; made-up ones aren’t.
  • One skip each. Everyone gets one pass for the whole game. Use it wisely.
  • Asker answers too. A popular house rule: after each answer, the asker answers the same question.
  • Go in order. The questions get closer round by round, so save round three for when you’re both comfortable.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play 21 questions?

Two people take turns: one asks twenty-one questions and the other answers each honestly, then they switch, or they trade one question at a time. Most people allow one skip per game.

What are good questions for 21 questions?

Start with easy, fun questions, move to how each of you comes across to others, and finish with honest ones about what matters to you. Going in rounds keeps it from getting awkward too early.

Can you play 21 questions over text?

Yes. Send one question at a time and wait for the answer before the next. It works well in the evening, when both of you have time to reply properly.

Is there an app for 21 questions?

These questions come from Kumustahan, a free conversation card app. You can draw from its decks on one phone and take turns answering, which works just like the game.
