A note

The memories that stay are not always the biggest ones. Sometimes one small scene keeps its color for years.

While the fire gets going

Places, adventures and animals. Good while the wood catches.

  1. Pick one view for a quiet morning: a beach sunrise or city lights before dawn.

  2. For one afternoon, would you explore a peaceful village, a future city, or a jungle with a guide?

    Back of the card

Bring home an imaginary souvenir from your visit. What is it?

    Back of the card

Imagine the animal gets to ask you something too. What might it ask?

Ano kaya iyon?

  5. What day from the past would you like to watch?

Sa free day, anong activity ang enjoy gawin kahit wala kang natatapos?

    Back of the card

Not every good thing needs to be useful. Some activities are good because they give the day room to breathe.

Stories for the dark

7 questions

Old memories and funny ones, the kind that get better told at night.

  1. Name a place that reminds you of a funny story with friends.

    Back of the card

That place gets a new name just for this story. What would it be?

  2. Share a small mistake or awkward moment that feels funny now.

    Back of the card

A small fail gets lighter once it becomes a story. Sometimes the best part is realizing everyone survives awkward little moments.

  3. Tell us about a small childhood memory you still remember clearly.

    Back of the card

The memories that stay are not always the biggest ones. Sometimes one small scene keeps its color for years.

  5. When you were younger, what got you excited quickly?

    Back of the card

Early excitement can be fun to remember. It can also show what kind of wonder came naturally to you.

Nakakatuwang balikan yung madaling ika-excite mo dati.

  6. Share the first time you did something on your own and felt more capable afterward.

  7. Recall a harmless mistake that became a good story later.

When it’s down to embers

9 questions

For the last few people awake. Slow answers are fine.

  1. Where do you feel like you can finally breathe a little?

    Back of the card

The place does not have to be special to anyone else. If your body softens there, it counts.

  2. Who is a friend you can sit quietly with without it feeling awkward?

Sino yung friend na kaya mong samahan nang tahimik without it feeling awkward?

    Back of the card

Comfortable quiet is its own kind of closeness. It means the friendship does not always need talking, joking, or trying hard.

  3. What makes sharing a quiet moment with a friend comfortable for you?

    Back of the card

The silence can stay silent. You do not need to fill it for this answer.

Puwedeng manatiling tahimik.

  4. When do you usually feel fully present in the moment, like during rest, work, prayer, conversation, or play?

Kailan mo usually nararamdaman na fully present ka sa moment, like kapag nagpapahinga, nagwo-work, nagpe-pray, may kausap, o naglalaro?

    Back of the card

Presence often has a pattern. The moments when you feel fully there can point toward what helps you feel whole.

  5. What helps you keep going when the next step is not clear?

    Back of the card

You do not need the whole map to keep moving carefully. Sometimes enough light for one step is still enough.

  6. Name something you are nervous about that still feels worth trying.

    Back of the card

Nerves and courage often show up together. The fear does not automatically mean the step is wrong.

  7. If you could tell your younger self one piece of good news, what would it be?

Kung may isang good news kang masasabi sa batang ikaw, ano yun?

    Back of the card

This is a gentle way to name progress. Not everything is fixed, but maybe there is something younger you would smile about.

  8. What can you do now that would have surprised you a few years ago?

    Back of the card

Picture showing your younger self how you do it. What might surprise them first?

  9. Point to one direction you feel drawn toward, even if it is not fully clear yet.

    Back of the card

Clarity sometimes arrives after movement. You can honor the direction without pretending you know the whole path.

How to use them

Before you ask

A campfire is the easiest place in the world to talk. Nobody has to look at each other, there’s nothing on a screen, and silence feels normal because there’s a fire to watch. Questions just give the night some shape, so it doesn’t end at the same three camping stories everyone already knows.

Follow the fire. While it’s loud and bright, ask the playful ones about islands, animals and places you’d explore. When it settles into a glow, ask for stories. The quiet questions are for the end of the night, when half the group has gone to their tents and the rest are happy to sit and listen.

The cards work offline, which matters with one bar of signal. Download them before you leave, or bring printable cards in a zip bag. For the drive there and back, see road trip questions.

Good for

  • Camping trips and cabin weekends
  • Beach bonfires
  • Backyard fire pits
  • Scout, youth and retreat campfires
  • Glamping with friends or family

Tips

  1. Bring the questions offline; there’s rarely signal at a good campsite.
  2. Let the fire set the pace: playful early, stories later, quiet at the end.
  3. Pass a flashlight or a stick to the person answering, so nobody talks over them.
  4. Silence by a fire is fine. Don’t rush to the next card.
  5. Anyone can pass, especially on the late-night ones.

Campfire

Frequently asked questions

What are good campfire questions?

Playful questions about places and adventures while the fire is bright, story questions about childhood and old trips as it settles, and a few quieter ones about hopes and home for the end of the night.

What do you talk about around a campfire?

Stories. Ask for a place that reminds someone of a funny memory, a song that takes them back, or a childhood game that kept them busy for hours. A campfire makes long answers feel natural.

What are good camping conversation starters for kids and adults?

Questions everyone can imagine an answer to: which animal you would understand, what you would do first on a peaceful island, whether you would tour outer space or the bottom of the ocean. They work for every age around the same fire.

Do these campfire questions work without internet?

Yes. Kumustahan works fully offline once it is installed, with English and Tagalog on every card, so you can use it at a campsite with no signal.
