How to use them
Before you ask
A silly question is an invitation to be ridiculous on purpose. Ask someone to pitch a useless invention or create an ice cream flavor and you’ll see a side of them the usual questions never reach: the side that comes out with close friends, little cousins and a tired team on a Friday.
Silly questions also work across ages, which is rare. A seven-year-old and their grandparent can both answer which toy should be giant, and the grown-up’s answer is usually the funnier one. That makes this page a good fit for family dinners, classrooms and mixed groups at a party.
Start with the make-something-up round, because it gets everyone playing. The confessions come last, when people are loose enough to admit how clumsy they really are. Want real stories instead of silliness? The funny questions go after the good ones.
Good for
Tips
- Reward the worst idea, not the best one.
- Go first with a truly bad answer to set the tone.
- Let the kids judge the adults’ answers.
- Keep it moving: one answer each, then the next card.
- Never make the silly answer about someone else at the table.
