How to use them
Before you ask
Good questions to ask a dating app match are small, specific and easy to answer with your thumbs: a drink that makes an ordinary day better, a song they would walk into a room to, a useless invention they would still buy. Questions like that get a real reply instead of “haha, you?”.
Most app chats die the same way. Both people trade the same three facts (job, neighborhood, weekend), the replies get shorter, and by day four nobody remembers who owes a message. A question with a little personality in it breaks that loop, because the answer gives you something to tease, agree with or ask about next.
Use the openers in the first exchange, the humor ones once the chat has a rhythm, and the planning ones as soon as you both seem keen. A match you only ever text is a pen pal. The last few are for the day of the date, when a little honesty about nerves goes a long way.
Good for
Tips
- Reply to their profile once, then ask one of these. Commenting on a photo and asking a question in the same message is enough.
- One question per message. Three at once reads like a form.
- Answer it yourself in the same text so they have something to react to.
- If the chat is still going after a few days, suggest the plan the answers point to.
- Save anything deep for in person, where tone of voice does half the work.

Frequently asked questions
What are good questions to ask on a dating app?
Small, specific ones that are fun to answer by text: a drink or song they love, a harmless opinion they defend, a place nearby they want to try. They get longer replies than “how was your day” and give you an easy follow-up.
How do you keep a dating app conversation going?
Answer your own question, react to the detail in theirs, and ask about that detail next. Once you have a rhythm, suggest meeting, because chats that stay on the app for weeks usually fade.
What should you not ask a match before the first date?
Skip exes, salary, how many kids they want and anything that sounds like a screening checklist. Those can come later, in person, once you know you like each other.
Can I use these as a game on a video date?
Yes. They are cards from Kumustahan, a conversation card app. Pick the Just for fun or Icebreakers deck, take turns reading a card aloud, and either of you can skip.
