Warm-up giggles

4 questions

Quick, silly and safe for even the shyest kid.

  1. Make one harmless rule that the whole world follows for a day.

    Back of the card

Imagine everyone following it at once. What small scene would be funny or helpful to watch?

  2. Give one household chore the power to finish itself. Which chore disappears?

    Back of the card

The chore is already done. Finish: "Now I can..."

Tapos na ang gawaing iyon. Ituloy: "Ngayon, puwede na akong..."

  3. Rate your normal-day clumsiness from 1 to 5, then share one example.

I-rate from 1 to 5 kung gaano ka ka-clumsy on a normal day, tapos mag-share ng isang example.

    Back of the card

Clumsiness has a range, and honesty makes the rating better. One good example can turn any score into evidence.

May range ang clumsiness, at mas funny kapag honest. Isang good example lang, kahit anong score may ebidensya.

  4. Choose your default reaction when something embarrassing happens.

Piliin yung default reaction mo kapag may nakakahiya na nangyari.

    Back of the card

Embarrassing moments reveal our automatic settings. Laugh, freeze, explain, escape: every reaction has its own logic.

Lumalabas yung automatic settings natin kapag nakakahiya. Tawa, freeze, explain, takas: may logic lahat yan.

Funny things that happened

4 questions

Kids love retelling a small disaster once it’s over.

  1. Tell a funny story about overreacting to a tiny problem.

    Back of the card

How would you tell it if the tiny problem were the villain in the story?

  2. Describe a funny photo of yourself that you would happily show your friends.

    Back of the card

No need to show it. What caption would fit the photo?

Hindi kailangang ipakita. Anong caption ang babagay sa photo?

  3. Name a word or line you misheard that made the conversation funny.

Magbanggit ng word o line na mali mong narinig at naging funny yung usapan.

    Back of the card

Mishearing one word can send a conversation somewhere else completely. Sometimes the mistake is funnier than the original point.

Minsan mas funny pa yung mali kaysa original point.

  4. What funny experience made you late to meet a friend?

    Back of the card

Retell the delay as a very dramatic excuse, if you like.

Silly about yourself

5 questions

Awards, hero names and the habits everyone knows you for.

  1. Give yourself a funny award for something you are surprisingly good at.

    Back of the card

  3. Group photo starts. What is your automatic move?

May group photo na. Ano ang automatic move mo?

    Back of the card

Group photos bring out instant instincts. Some people arrange everyone, some disappear behind others, and some are ready before the camera is.

May automatic instinct kapag group photo na. May taga-ayos, may nagtatago sa likod, may ready bago pa yung camera.

  4. Confess one harmless habit you know is very you.

I-confess yung harmless habit na very you talaga.

    Back of the card

Harmless habits become part of your signature. They may be small, but people who know you probably notice.

  5. Name the household item that becomes an issue when it goes missing.

    Back of the card

Some objects are only appreciated when they disappear. Their absence somehow turns the whole house into a search party.

  1. Invent one silly rule everyone should follow for one day.

Gumawa ng silly rule na susundin ng lahat for one day.

    Back of the card

Silly rules make ordinary life feel slightly remixed. One harmless rule can turn a normal day into a shared bit.

    Back of the card

Personal rules can sound strange from the outside. From the inside, they usually have a very clear origin story.

How to use them

Before you ask

Funny questions for kids work best when the joke is the situation, not a person. Kids are quick to laugh at someone, so a good silly question points the laughter at a ridiculous rule, a made-up holiday or a small mishap the kid is happy to tell on themselves.

Start with the warm-ups, which take two seconds to answer. Then move to the “funny things that happened” questions: retelling a time they overreacted or misheard a word teaches kids that embarrassing moments become good stories later. That’s a useful thing to learn at eight.

Laugh at your own answers first. If a grown-up admits to losing the remote every single day, kids relax and play along.

Good for

  • Breaking a grumpy mood at dinner
  • Long car rides
  • Classroom Friday afternoons
  • Kids’ parties and sleepovers
  • Video calls with grandparents who want a laugh

Tips

  1. Tell your own embarrassing story first. It gives kids permission.
  2. If a sibling laughs at an answer, laugh with, not at, and move on.
  3. Let kids act out their answers; the performance is half the fun.
  4. Write the best invented holidays and rules on the fridge.
  5. End on a silly card, never a serious one, if bedtime is next.

Funny questions for kids

Frequently asked questions

What are some funny questions to ask kids?

Ask them to invent a silly rule for one day, give themselves an award for something they’re surprisingly good at, or tell about a time they misheard a word. The laughs come from the situation, not from anyone being made fun of.

How do I make sure funny questions don’t turn into teasing?

Pick questions about made-up things and harmless mishaps, go first with your own story, and steer away if siblings start laughing at each other rather than with each other.

Are funny questions good for shy kids?

Often, yes. Silly questions have no right answer, so shy kids can join in with a one-word pick before they’re ready to tell a story.
