How to use them
Before you ask
Would you rather is the easiest conversation game for kids because the hard part, coming up with an answer, is already done. They only have to pick. The real conversation is the “why,” and that’s where kids show how they think.
A lot of would you rather lists for kids lean on gross-out choices or picks that make someone look bad. These stay clean and kind: treats, powers, adventures and small everyday choices. They work in a classroom, at a birthday party and with grandparents in the room.
Play it out loud: read the question, everyone points or calls their pick at once, then each person gets ten seconds to defend it. Some of these have three options or a “pick one” twist, which keeps it from being a coin toss.
Good for
Tips
- Everyone picks at the same time, by pointing, so nobody copies.
- Make every pick come with one “because.”
- Let kids invent a third option if they can argue for it.
- Split the room: one side for each answer, then let people switch after hearing reasons.
- Keep the pace quick; would you rather is better fast than deep.

Frequently asked questions
What are good would you rather questions for kids?
Clean, picture-able choices: fly anywhere or appear instantly somewhere, breakfast or dessert free for life, a tour of outer space or the bottom of the ocean. The best ones have two good answers, so kids have to explain their pick.
Are these would you rather questions appropriate for school?
Yes. None of them are gross, scary or about other people, so they work as classroom brain breaks and icebreakers.
How do you play would you rather with kids?
Read the question, everyone picks at once, then each player gives one reason. For a bigger group, send each answer to a different side of the room.
