How to use them
Before you ask
Married conversation drifts toward logistics: who’s picking up whom, what’s for dinner, whether the bill got paid. None of that is bad. It’s just that you can share a bed for ten years and never hear about the man who taught him to fix things, or what he worries about on the drive home. Good questions to ask your husband are small and specific enough to get a story instead of a status report.
Start with the easy set while you’re doing something side by side: washing up, folding laundry, sitting in the parked car for five more minutes. Plenty of men talk more when nobody is staring at them. Then ask about the boy and the young man he was, and only later about pressure and rest. Answer every question yourself too, so it feels like trading, not an inspection.
Some cards come from the Couples deck, written for two people already together; the rest are from decks for anyone. The Couples Edition has more when you want it. Every card also has a Tagalog version, handy if that’s the language his family speaks at home. If he passes on one, let it go. A question he skips tonight may be the one he brings up himself next month.
Good for
Tips
- Ask while you’re both doing something, like cooking or driving; eye contact isn’t required.
- Follow up on one detail instead of reaching for the next card.
- Don’t use a deep question to open a complaint you’ve been saving.
- When he talks about pressure, listen first and ask before you offer fixes.
- Two or three good questions are plenty for a weeknight.

Frequently asked questions
What are good questions to ask your husband?
Specific ones he can answer with a story: who taught him a skill he still uses, which household habit he finally understands, what he’d do with one free hour a week. Then ask how you work as a team and what he’s carrying that you might not see.
How do I get my husband to talk more?
Ask smaller questions at easier moments, like during a drive or while doing chores together, and don’t interrupt with advice. Answer the same question yourself, and let him skip any he doesn’t want.
What deep questions can I ask my husband?
Ask what pressure he has gotten used to carrying, what he’s afraid would happen if he rested, and what he wants the people closest to him to remember him for. Ask on a calm night, not after an argument.
Are there conversation cards for married couples?
